Continuing Educational Opportunities

In addition to formally sponsored meetings and workshops, AGT offers the following educational opportunities. These are available for a fee to non-members and at a discount or free to members.

Online Education: AGT has taped key sessions at its Annual Meeting and is providing them online for continuing education credits at no charge to members. The presentations are available for viewing under the members only section of the web site.

Journal Club: This activity is designed to meet the continuing education needs of individuals in all laboratory settings. Journal Clubs contain a set of questions that are usually based on three recent journal articles. Source information for the articles is provided, but participants must obtain the articles themselves. Participants are to read the articles and discuss them as a group, or if completing them individually, to read the articles and consider the discussion questions. After discussion or study, all individuals applying for CEUs are to complete the question sets included in the Journal Club packet and return the completed forms to their regional Education Committee representatives for grading. Committee members are listed in each issue of The Journal of the Association of Genetic Technologists. Documentation of CEUs earned will be returned to successful applicants. New Journal Clubs are announced in The Journal of the Association of Genetic Technologists and AGT E-News. Successful completion of each AGT Journal Club earns the participant 0.4 CEUs in Area 1.

Click here for the most recent Journal Club Order Form, which lists the available Journal Clubs and their associated reading list references.  New Journal Clubs are also announced in The Journal .

Test Yourself: This is an opportunity to "test yourself" and earn continuing education credits. Each issue of The Journal of the Association of Genetic Technologists contains an "open book test" based on articles from the previous issue of The Journal. Participants complete a multiple choice test and return it by the deadline, along with the CEU form located in The Journal, to their regional Education Committee representatives for grading. The committee member addresses are printed in The Journal. Successful participation in each Test Yourself earns the participant 0.2 CEUs. Test Yourselves are free to AGT members, and are $20 for non-members.
