Membership
AGT's membership consists of approximately 1,300 students, technologists, supervisors, and directors working in laboratories in the United States and more than 30 other countries. Although most members are technologists, about 15% hold doctoral degrees (MD or PhD). Membership is open to all who are employed or interested in genetic technologies. Regular, Student, and Emeritus members receive the following benefits:
-
may vote in elections and hold office (students cannot hold office)
-
receive the Journal of the Association of Genetic Technologists, published quarterly
-
access to the International Membership Directory published electronically in the members only area of the web site
Collaborative members also receive these benefits, but are not eligible to vote.
The Emeritus and Collaborative categories of membership were added in 2002. Emeritus membership is for those persons who have retired or are no longer active in the field. Collaborative membership is for those persons who currently hold membership in any other health-related national organization and who have never been members of AGT.
Membership dues are paid on an annual basis and apply to the membership year from January 1 through December 31. Applications that are received after September 15 will be applied to the following year. Membership dues help to cover the costs of running the association and for providing membership benefits.
